In 2017 Tasmanian Creative Industries seeks to hold and present the first of our annual symposia, bringing together for the first time the recognized and nascent creative industries sector organisations and individuals to engage with current and prospective issues, to discuss and argue, to listen to current and pre-emptive thoughts, consider existing and new practices and ultimately to celebrate and recognise the scope and success of the Tasmanian Creative Sectors.
As the first major event for the organisation, The Creative Island Symposium aims to:
bring together the Tasmanian creative sector and showcase/shine the light on our local talent, celebrating imagination and creativity on the island.
Define the unique nature and structure of the Creative Industries within Tasmania and explore the similarities and opportunities with other niche communities, individuals and markets such as education, tourism, ICT.
create an environment where organisations and people both within and outside the recognised sectors can interact and exchange with each other, both to network and increase the collaborative potential, markets and opportunities
Present 2- 3 keynote presentations from leading international CI Thinkers
Present the initial findings of the TCI sector mapping study – outlining the scope and capacity of the Creative Industries within the State and the contribution that the whole sector makes towards employment within and the creative and economic prosperity of the State.
A key aim of the Symposium is to identify and celebrate significant players within Tasmania’s creative sector. ‘Significant’ doesn’t necessarily mean big. In each sector that comprises the mosaic of Tasmanian cultural and creative enterprises, are shining examples of artists, creators, thinkers, entrepreneurs and originators who are achieving remarkable success worthy of note.
By showcasing best practice, innovative and dynamic examples of creative endeavour, to hear firsthand of the various challenges, opportunities and fortune that have spurred leading Tasmanian creatives, it is anticipated that participants will be inspired to continue to collaborate, partner and build their respective artistic or business practice.
Therefore, to capture the imaginations of Tasmania’s creative sector and generate strong media attention, leading international, national and local guests will be invited to offer keynote addresses, participate in panel discussions and engage in formal and informal networking opportunities.
